Job Summary
The Resource Navigator assists students by providing individualized care in the form of resource education and coordination, and referral services (internal and external) for students experiencing personal, social, and/or mild emotional difficulties that may impede academic persistence and success. This position reports directly to the Dean of Students. The Resource Navigator will average 40 hours per week and is a 2-year appointment at this time.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Works closely with the Dean of Students, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Accessible Educational Services, the Office of Student Success and Advising, and other areas that provide student support integral to student success (retention and graduation).
  • Responsible for designing and administering initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented student population. Initiatives and programs may be focused on multiple student populations, and focuses may include student advocacy, veterans, culture centers, first-generation college students, disability services, LGBTQ
    individuals, and representatives of other campus culture centers.
  • Frequently interfaces directly with students and collaborates with staff in own department and other departments on shared student support goals.
  • Serves as a case manager for students experiencing emerging and chronic situations that may compromise their ability to be successful.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience advocating for student success; experience working with college students including diverse and/or underrepresented student populations.
  • Maintains strong organizational, multitasking, and presentation skills.
  • Implements non-clinical interventions, programs, and/or services.
  • Coaches students towards strategies and interventions that support self-care and self-advocacy to manage their academic, personal, and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Provides referrals to campus and community services.
  • Arranges for access and referral to appropriate medical, mental health, housing, community, and/or social services.
  • Tracks student compliance with treatment recommendations and/or college behavioral expectations.
  • Advocates for students individually and systemically.
  • Cultivates collaborative relationships with community resources providers.
  • Develops programs and classroom presentations to minimize the negative impacts of social and emotional stressors on students.
  • Serves on the campus threat assessment/behavioral consultation team in the absence of the Dean of Students.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
  • Interfaces directly with students by meeting 1-on-1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals.
  • Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; may prepare reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • May serve on committees and perform student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs, social work, counseling, psychology, sociology or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • Some experience in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Additional Information
2-year grant-funded full-time position
This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
